Rayman Origins - PS3 Review
[Story]
If you think 2D platformers are the thing of the past then Rayman Origins will prove you wrong, so very wrong. The entire 'slap' gang is back this time innocently portrayed sleeping while creating an orchestra of snoring which annoys the baddies living underground. There is no sub-story or hidden agendas in this game. Its purely simple, Rayman wakes up baddies then slaps em good.
[Graphics & Sound]
I was blown away by the graphics! Seriously, i have played many 3D games and this simple platformer is any day better, more vibrant and just a joy to look at. Each level has a totally different theme and the entire package just gels together so well. A music themed level has piano keys as platforms that plays music when you step on it. Drums are used to launch you up and enemies are birds that shoot music at you. Each character is made to have custom moves for example Rayman climbs with his hands but his slightly bigger counterpart Globox does it with his mouth. The music is upbeat and has a hint of mischieviousness to it. Believe me when i say you will be hooked before you even start the game.
[Gameplay]
You choose levels from a world map and each level has a few sub-levels with some leading to a final boss battle. You will need to run, float, fly and swim across each level collecting yellow smileys called Lums. At the end of the level you will earn Electoons based on how many Lums you collect and the number of 'secret' cages you find. Much thought is put into each level which requires you to run through the entire game using the momentum to reach 'secret' spots while avoiding enemies and navigating impossible obstacles. Controls are perfectly made for the games fast pace and extremely responsive.
[Conclusion]
This game blew my mind into so many tiny tiny pieces. It has beautiful art design, gameplay is fast and intense, controls are flawless and most importantly, you get to slap everyone in the game. I would recommend this game to everyone BUT please note that it is very challenging. I have easily replayed a single level for up to 40 times before managing to succeed so if you're new to platformers, i would advise you to watch the video below before buying it.
I will give this game a 9.5/10
